Boys’ basketball: Bishop Montgomery shows off its ability in rout

The Del Rey League showdown between Bishop Montgomery and Gardena Serra on Friday turned into a mismatch.

Down by two points midway through the third quarter, Bishop Montgomery (18-0), ranked No. 2 by The Times, went on a 15-0 run and came away with a 58-34 road victory over the Cavaliers.

Stephen Thompson Jr. scored 19 points and Lamond Murray Jr. had 16 points. Tavrion Dawson led Serra (11-4) with 13 points. Bishop Montgomery plays St. John Bosco on Saturday at 7 p.m. at St. John Bosco in a nonleague game.

In the Trinity League, Mater Dei stayed unbeaten with a 75-59 win over Orange Lutheran. Stanley Johnson scored 29 points. Darien Williams had 16 points and Daniel Hamilton had zero points and 12 assists in St. John Bosco’s 61-38 win over Servite.

In the South Coast League, El Toro upset Mission Viejo, 73-72, on two free throws with less 7.5 seconds left by Cody White. Max Redfield had 23 points for Mission Viejo.

In the Mission League, Loyola defeated St. Francis, 70-33. Trey Mason scored 20 points and Max Hazzard had 16 points and 10 assists. Chaminade held off Crespi, 64-61. Jaron Martin returned from strep throat to score 26 points. London Perrantes had 21 points and Max Heidegger 18 for Crespi. Alemany defeated Harvard-Westlake, 64-52. Bear Henderson scored 18 points and had 11 rebounds. Bennie Boatwright added 12 points and 10 rebounds.

In the Alpha League, Pacific Hills defeated Campbell Hall, 61-53. Jahmel Taylor scored 31 points. Aaron Holiday had 21 for Campbell Hall. Windward defeated Viewpoint, 71-54. Brentwood defeated Crossroads, 75-40, in a nonleague game. Leland King had 17 points and 15 rebounds.

Etiwanda defeated Los Osos, 59-40. Kenny Barnes scored 17 points and Sheldon Blackwell 14. Rancho Cucamonga defeated Upland, 73-52. Victor Joseph scored 21 points. Chino Hills defeated Ayala, 64-35. Lonzo Ball scored 20 points.

Santa Monica defeated Culver City, 78-52. Jordan Mathews scored 17 point and Chris Smith 16.

Damien defeated Claremont, 63-55. Sophomore Jeremy Hemsley scored 23 points.

In the Foothill League, West Ranch defeated Canyon, 62-48. Kevin Harris scored 23 points. Hart defeated Saugus, 78-76, in overtime.

In the Tri-Valley League, Oak Park defeated Bishop Diego, 75-43. J.D. Slajchert had 19 points and Ron Lee Jr. 18.

Buckley defeated Riverside Christian, 78-45.
