Boys' basketball: Harvard-Westlake knocks off Loyola

Everyone associated with Los Angeles Loyola knew this week's three-game Mission League schedule would be a tough challenge, and so far, the Cubs are 0-2.

Harvard-Westlake handed the Cubs their second consecutive close defeat, 61-59, at Occidental College. Michael Sheng scored 27 points and Alex Copeland 17. That comes after Loyola lost on Monday in overtime to Crespi, 82-80.

Loyola, playing without injured guard Parker Jackson-Cartwright, dropped to 13-4 and 3-2. Harvard-Westlake, playing without injured forward Derick Newton, is 13-5 and 4-2.

Alemany defeated Chaminade, 84-69. Brandon Boyd and Bear Henderson had 22 points apiece. Shacquille Dawkins added 15 points. Jaron Martin scored 30 points for Chaminade. Alemany is 13-5 and 4-1. St. Francis defeated Notre Dame, 61-53.

In the Ocean League, Jordan Mathews scored 37 points in Santa Monica's 63-62 win over Beverly Hills.

In the Moore League, Long Beach Poly is 17-1 and 6-0 after a 63-36 win over Long Beach Wilson. Roschon Prince scored 19 points. Jordan Bell had eight blocks. Compton defeated Long Beach Jordan, 78-64.

In the Del Rey League, Ellis Salahuddin scored 18 points in Gardena Serra's 69-50 win over St. Bernard. Bishop Montgomery defeated La Salle, 84-42, to improve to 20-0. Lamond Murray Jr. had 20 points. Milan Acquaah led La Salle with 17 points.

In the Sierra League, Damien and Chino Hills set up a Friday showdown with victories. Jeremy Hemsley scored 26 points in Damien's 74-64 win over South Hills. Chino Hills defeated Claremont, 71-49. Cameron Curry had 19 points.

In the South Coast League, Mission Viejo defeated Laguna Hills, 80-56. Evan Zeller scored 24 points and made five three-pointers.

In the Trinity League, Mater Dei defeated Servite, 53-16. Elijah Brown scored 16 points and Stanley Johnson had 11 points and 11 rebounds. Orange Lutheran defeated JSerra, 77-71. Payton Banks had 34 points. 

In the Tri-Valley League, Oaks Christian defeated Santa Clara, 58-40. Austen Moye had 14 points. Oak Park defeated St. Bonaventure, 75-58. Ron Lee Jr. had 19 points, 10 assists and 11 rebounds. J.D. Slajchert had 23 points.

In the Marmonte League, Royal defeated Thousand Oaks, 57-47. Max McCoy had 16 points and Scott Woods added 12 points, 12 rebounds and eight blocks.

St. Anthony defeated Salesian, 65-54. Eric Cooper scored 20 points. Jon Ross added 18 points and 10 rebounds.

Dominguez defeated Gahr, 81-69. EJ Johnson scored 25 points.
