Nick Suniga is one of the last former Van Nuys Montclair Prep baseball players who left school after the Mounties dropped their sports program.

He played his junior season at Mission Hills Alemany, and now he’s ready to become Alemany’s ace in his senior year. He signed with Cal Poly San Luis Obispo.

Suniga will be a key figure for a team that could have seven sophomores on varsity, including standout pitcher Kyle Merkel.

In a winter game on Saturday against Kennedy, Suniga showed he has a solid breaking pitch along with good velocity on his fastball. He’s also a top hitter.
