Girls’ basketball: Windward outlasts Long Beach Poly

In a matchup of two of the top teams in Southern California, Windward got 13 points from Jordin Canada and 11 from Courtney Jaco to defeat Long Beach Poly 49-38 in the semifinals of the Oaks Christian tournament.

Tania Lamb scored 14 points and Eliza Matthews added 11 for the Jackrabbits (10-2), who had scored 114 points in their previous two tournament games.

The Wildcats (13-0) outscored Poly 27-17 in the second half and will meet Oakland Bishop O’Dowd in the championship game Saturday night. O’Dowd, the defending Division III state champion, defeated defending Division IV state champion La Jolla Country Day, 65-43, in the second semifinal.
