Girls' basketball: Briana Harris saves St. Monica

December 29, 2012 |  7:39 pm

St. Monica has started the season strong and posted one of its biggest victories Saturday, defeating Burbank 54-52 in a gold division semifinal of the West Coast Holiday Festival.

Senior guard Briana Harris stole the ball along the baseline, dribbled the length of the court in four seconds and scored the game-winning layup as time expired. Harris finished with 26 points and 10 rebounds and has averaged 27.5 points in four tournament games.

Melissa Maragnes, who has signed with UC Santa Barbara, added a double-double for the Mariners (13-2), whose only losses are to Windward and Flintridge Sacred Heart.

St. Monica will play either Burbank Burroughs or Sherman Oaks Notre Dame for the gold division championship Monday.
