Football: Site for future CIF bowl games could be announced this weekend

There are four bids to host the CIF state championship bowl games in 2013, 2014 and 2015, and the winning bid could be announced this weekend, CIF associate executive director Ron Nocetti said Tuesday.

The finalists are Home Depot Center in Carson, Sacramento State, Sacramento City College and Veterans Memorial Stadium in Clovis.

Home Depot has hosted the event since its inception in 2006. If the CIF chose a site in Northern California, it would leave Southern California with no state championship events other than occasionally hosting golf and girls’ volleyball. Basketball is held in Sacramento, track in Clovis, wrestling in Bakersfield and Lemoore and cross country in Fresno.
