Football: Pac-5 Division final is a dream matchup

December 1, 2012 |  7:35 pm

_C011921The stage is set for the highly-anticipated CIF Southern Section Pac-5 Division final between two of the most storied prep programs in the Southland -- Santa Ana Mater Dei and Long Beach Poly.

The stands are jam packed at Angel Stadium in Anaheim and it looks evenly divided between Monarchs red and white and Poly green and gold. The team captains are meeting at midfield for the pre-game coin toss.

Moore League champion Poly (10-3) has won 18 CIF titles and Trinity League runner-up Mater Dei (11-2) has won nine. Mater Dei leads 6-5-1 head-to-head and the teams are 1-1-1 in CIF finals, the last meeting ending in a tie in the Division I final in 1999 at Angel Stadium (then called Edison Field).
