The Trinity League is always close to the best in high school football and now the teams in basketball are getting very good, too.

Santa Ana Mater Dei (10-0) could have some competition when league play begins on Jan. 2. Orange Lutheran (10-0), St. John Bosco (8-1), JSerra (6-2), Servite (8-3) and Santa Margarita (12-3) have all shown ability at times.

Payton Banks of Orange Lutheran looked fantastic in the Windward tournament, finishing up an MVP performance with 41 points against Palisades.

Servite, showing great improvement under Coach John Morris, won the Norco tournament.

St. John Bosco, coming off a championship in South Carolina, will get its first Trinity test from Orange Lutheran at home on Jan. 2.

Mater Dei remains the team to beat. One reason is the improvement of Elijah Brown, whose exceptional shooting, combined with the play of junior standout Stanley Johnson, has kept the Monarchs a step ahead of opponents.
