Boys' basketball: Sophomore Cesar Reyes gives boost to Sun Valley Poly
Sun Valley Poly has a rich basketball tradition dating back to the days of Hall of Famer Gail Goodrich in the 1960s.
Sophomore Cesar Reyes, a transfer from Sherman Oaks Notre Dame, has helped the Parrots regain their competitiveness this season.
He is averaging 22 points and has made 42 three-pointers for the 6-5 Parrots.
Last week, Poly defeated East Valley League rival Grant, 55-40, for the first time since 2007. It was only a tournament game, but it was a sign Poly could be headed back to prominence in the East Valley League.
"He's a really good shooter," Coach Alan Woskanian said. "He sees the court well and is an unselfish kid."
He might be the best player Poly has had since All-City guard D.J. Gay, who led the Parrots to their last league title in 2007.
