El Camino Real Coach David Rebibo and Chaminade Coach Todd Wolfson have been childhood friends. They were teammates at El Camino Real and they’re roommates now. Twice their basketball teams have met, and it’s one win for Rebibo and one win for Wolfson.

Now a third meeting is set for Thursday at 8 p.m. in a quarterfinal game of the Santa Monica tournament.

El Camino Real is 5-0 and considered the favorite. The Conquistadores play strong man-to-man defense and have lots of standout players in Michael Thomas, Julian Richardson, Maleke Haynes and Evan Wardlow.

But Chaminade has its own group of top players in Jack Williams, Jaron Martin and freshman Trevor Stanback.

No word yet on what happens to the losing coach, whether it’s vacuuming or toilet duty.
