Boys’ basketball: Palisades renews rivalry with Crenshaw

A first-round game in Monday’s Santa Monica tournament ought to bring out lots of City Section fans. It’s Palisades taking on Crenshaw at 6:30 p.m. at Santa Monica High.

The two schools have met in each of the last two seasons in the City Section quarterfinals. Palisades won, 72-68, in 2011. Crenshaw won, 68-66, in 2012. The game will be important for playoff seeding purposes in a couple of months.

There are lots of other potential intriguing matchups at Santa Monica. There could be a Brentwood-Loyola game on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. if both win their first-round games, matching former Loyola player and assistant coach Ryan Bailey against his mentor, Jamal Adams of Loyola.

And the battle of the roommates could happen on Thursday at 8 p.m. if Chaminade and El Camino Real win their first-round games. Chaminade Coach Todd Wolfson and El Camino Real Coach David Rebibo will have to wager who’s going to clean up the condo in defeat.

First-round schedule on Monday: Cleveland vs. Loyola, 3:30 p.m.; Providence vs. Brentwood, 5 p.m.; Palisades vs. Crenshaw, 6:30 p.m.; Santa Monica vs. Oaks Christian, 8 p.m. Tuesday: West Ranch vs. Palmdale, 3:30 p.m.; Culver City vs. Alemany, 5 p.m.; El Camino Real vs. Fremont, 6:30 p.m.; Sylmar vs. Chaminade, 8 p.m.

The championship game is Saturday at 8:15 p.m.
