Boys’ basketball: Kris Yanku comes through for Taft in OT win

Senior guard Kris Yanku of Woodland Hills Taft did everything but carry the water bottles on Wednesday in a 70-68 overtime victory over Righetti in the Mission Prep tournment.

He sent the game into overtime with a basket and added the game-winning shot at the buzzer, making a long-range three-pointer. He finished with 38 points. Sophomore Cameron Walker had 32 points for Righetti.

Sophomore Aaron Holiday scored 38 points and Kahlil Simplis 19 in Campbell Hall’s 82-73 win over Atascadero. Jared Studeman scored 29 points for Atascadero. Bishop Montgomery remained unbeaten after a 72-57 win over Mission Prep. Lamond Murray Jr. and Stephen Thompson Jr. each scored 21 points.

In Florida, Long Beach Poly stayed unbeaten with a 52-49 win over Omaha Central, snapping the Eagles’ 41-game winning streak. KJ Feagin made a shot at the buzzer. Jordan Bell had 14 points, 17 rebounds and eight blocks.

In Las Vegas, Santa Ana Mater Dei defeated Ribet, 76-31. Elijah Brown scored 13 points and Stanley Johnson and La’Vette Parker had 12 apiece.

In consolation games of the San Fernando Valley Invitational, Camarillo defeated Milken, 65-32. Chatsworth defeated Arleta, 58-34. Quartz Hill defeated North Hollywood, 43-34. Salesian defeated Monroe, 80-48. Knight defeated Northridge, 76-34. Notre Dame defeated Verdugo Hills, 57-40. Grant defeated Panorama, 83-44, with Tullio Parry scoring 27 points. St. Genevieve defeated Sun Valley Poly, 58-55.

In the Windward tournament, Ammar Rehman scored 23 points to help Palisades defeat Lawndale, 76-59. Palisades guard Jalon Wilson underwent arthroscopic surgery on Monday on his knee and should return in 10 days.

Penn State-bound Payton Banks had 27 points to help Orange Lutheran (7-0) defeat Beverly Hills, 53-40. Ben Cohen scored 16 points for the Normans. Mica Winn scored 22 points in Crenshaw’s 86-26 win over South Gate. Roy Hemsley had 14 points and 11 rebounds in Windward’s 62-43 win over Carson.

In Palm Springs, Calabasas stayed unbeaten with a 60-34 win over La Quinta. Austin Smith had 14 points and Max Hoetzel 13.

In Sacramento, West Ranch defeated Cleveland, 68-43, with Ako Kaluna scoring 21 points and getting 16 rebounds. Inglewood defeated Oakland Fremont, 89-55. Chaminade defeated Foothill, 76-65. Jaron Martin had 29 points.

Hart is 10-0 after an 82-78 overtime win over Culver City. Lewis Stallworth scored 17 points.
