Boys’ basketball: Juniors spark Palisades to win in Oaks Christian tourney

Juniors Louis Kurihara and Aaron Johnson contributed 17 and 14 points, respectively, as Palisades knocked off Sacramento, 68-48, in a first-round game of the Oaks Christian tournament. The Dolphins will play Royal in the 4 p.m. quarterfinals. Royal (10-2) defeated Eisenhower, 63-43. Scott Woods scored 16 points and had 15 rebounds and six blocks.

The big first-round upset had unranked Rancho Verde defeating No. 10 West Ranch, 56-35. San Diego Lincoln defeated Colony, 64-61. Corona Centennial defeated Sacramento Pleasant Grove, 71-65. Jeremy Lieberman had 16 points and Max Hoetzel 13 in Calabasas’ 62-31 win over New York Dwight.

In Hawaii, Thousand Oaks (12-1) defeated Hawaii Roosevelt, 74-42. Dakota Pierce had 13 points.

In Palm Springs, Rancho Cucamonga improved to 11-2 with a 61-41 win over Diamond Ranch. Victor Joseph and Nick Culver had 15 points apiece. Mission Viejo is 13-0 after an 81-49 win over Menlo. Evan Zeller scored 28 points and had eight assists. Harvard-Westlake received 24 points and five three-pointers from Michael Sheng in a 71-69 win over New York Cardinal Hayes. Loyola is 9-0 after an 84-31 win over Madison Ridgeland.

Tra Holder had 27 points in Brentwood’s 77-53 win over Lakeside. Leland King added 13 points and 14 rebounds.

In the Ventura tournament, Santa Clara defeated Agoura, 67-65. Arman Momin had 20 points. Pacifica defeated Canyon Country Canyon, 45-42. Marc Cabera led Canyon with 17 points.

Fairfax defeated San Juan Hills, 67-41. Sage Woodruff scored 19 points.

Santa Ana Mater Dei defeated San Bernardino, 78-52, in the Orange Holiday Classic. Elijah Brown had 13 points.

In San Diego, Taft was beaten by Richmond Salesian, 58-46. Kris Yanku scored 38 points for the Toreadors. Dominguez defeated Paraclete, 61-45. Windward defeated Newark Memorial, 67-59, in double overtime. Jordan Wilson scored 31 points and had eight assists.

In the Chaminade tournament, Westlake defeated Burroughs, 83-56. Grant Lozoya led the way with 27 points. Valencia defeated Eagle Rock, 60-39.

In the San Pedro tournament, Ajon Efferson scored 21 points in Gardena Serra’s 60-45 win over San Pedro.

In Chicago, Crespi was beaten by Bogan, 83-64, despite 24 points from London Perrantes.

Marcus Lovett Jr. has returned after an illness for Burbank Providence. He scored 29 points in a 62-59 loss to Yorba Linda.

No. 2-ranked Torrance Bishop Montgomery (11-0) defeated Long Beach Cabrillo, 94-37. Lamond Murray Jr. scored 23 points.

In the Covina tournament, 16 players scored in Damien’s 9-24 win over Sierra Vista.

Orange Lutheran was beaten by Chicago De La Salle, 56-49. Kendall Lauderdale has 12 points and 12 rebounds.
