Sophomore guard Marcus LoVett Jr. of Burbank Providence, one of the top players for his position, hasn’t played since the season opener on Nov. 27 because of an infection he picked up from a bite or scratch on his ear, Athletic Director Andrew Bencze said.

He has not been cleared by his doctor to practice or play, Bencze said.

He has finished his medication but also is trying to catch up with his classes after missing a week of school, his father, Marcus Sr., said.

‘I think he’s getting close,’ Marcus Sr. said.

But his father said he wants his son to complete some school work before returning to the court.
