Boys’ basketball: Calabasas, Westlake cruise in Marmonte League openers

Calabasas and Westlake had impressive victories in their Marmonte League openers on Tuesday night.

Calabasas (5-0) received 16 points from Max Hoetzel and 14 apiece from Jeremy Lieberman and Austin Smith in an 89-41 victory over Simi Valley. Westlake (8-1) defeated Agoura, 70-54, behind Joshua Brooks, who scored 23 points.

Thousand Oaks (9-1) defeated Moorpark, 64-50, with Tanner Fanjoy scoring 21 points. Max McCoy had 13 points in Royal’s 78-40 win over Newbury Park.

Kris Yanku scored 33 points in Taft’s 66-56 nonleague victory over Buckley. Canyon Country Canyon (8-1) received 17 points from Marc Cabrera in a 61-42 win over Santa Clara.

Corona Centennial (6-0) remained unbeaten with a 97-52 victory over Alta Loma in the Inland Empire Invitational. Sam Finley scored 22 points. Rancho Cucamonga defeated Charter Oak, 97-47.

In the La Canada tournament, Hart (5-0) stayed unbeaten with a 69-44 win over Besant Hill. Myles Franklin scored 21 points. Hart faces host La Canada on Wednesday night.

Ron Lee Jr. scored 22 points and had eight assists and JD Slajchert added 19 points and 10 rebounds in Oak Park’s 59-40 win over Rio Mesa.

Lawdale defeated Chadwick, 58-47. Chimezie Metu scored 13 points. Sergio Blandon had 12 points and 10 rebounds.
