Boys’ basketball: Julian Richardson breaks out with 35 points for ECR

Junior Julian Richardson of Woodland Hills El Camino Real got hot at the Modest Christian tournament on Thursday, scoring 35 points in the Conquistadores’ 85-49 win over San Francisco University.

Michael Thomas had 17 points and Maleke Haynes finished with 11 assists. Alemany defeated Sacramento Burbank, 82-68. Bennie Boatwright had 18 points and 12 rebounds. Bear Henderson had 17 points and 20 rebounds.

Loyola is off to a 10-0 start after a 65-63 win over Chicago De La Salle in the MaxPreps tournament in Palm Springs. Trey Mason continued his success from three-point range, making four three-pointers en route to 18 points. Thomas Welsh had 14 points and 13 rebounds. Parker Jackson-Cartwright made the go-ahead basket with nine seconds left and had 15 points.

Harvard-Westlake knocked off Seattle Rainier Beach, 75-70. Derick Newton made 19 of 22 free throws en route to a 31-point performance. Michael Sheng had 16 points. Westchester defeated Miller Grove, 52-50. Harvard-Westlake will play Westchester at 5:30 p.m. at Palm Desert High. Brentwood defeated Marina, 59-32. Leland King had 16 points and 10 rebounds.

In the Orange Holiday Classic, No. 1 Mater Dei defeated Kamehameha, 70-31. Stanley Johnson had 10 points.

In the Oaks Christian tournament, Santa Monica advanced to the semifinals with a 46-42 win over Rancho Verde. Jordan Mathews scored 18 points. Also advancing was Royal, which defeated Palisades, 59-39, behind 27 points from Max McCoy. Corona Centennial advanced to the semifinals with a 69-67 win over Calabasas. Jeremy Lieberman had 25 points for the Coyotes.

In consolation game, West Ranch defeated Moorpark, 69-45. Kevin Harris scored 24 points.

Unbeaten Bishop Montgomery received 27 points from Lamond Murray Jr. in a 78-18 win over Lou Danzler Prep.

In San Diego, Dominguez defeated La Jolla Country Day, 52-31. Kalin Peters scored 14 points.

Mission Viejo is 14-0 after a 65-44 win over Diamond Ranch. Sage Stone scored 19 points, Max Redfield 15 and Evan Zeller 14. Orange Lutheran defeated Madison Ridgeland, 76-35. Payton Banks didn’t play because of injury but should return on Friday.

Marcus Lovett Jr. scored 31 points in a 66-47 win over Westminster.

In the Ventura tournament, Oak Park defeated Lakewood, 59-43. J.D. Slajchert had 16 points. Santa Clara defeated Dos Pueblos, 63-35. Arman Momin had 20 points. Canyon defeated Santa Paula, 46-26. Ben Taufahema had 14 points.

In Hawaii, Thousand Oaks (13-1) defeated Punahou, 63-47. Tanner Fanjoy had 12 points and Eric Greene 11.

In San Diego, Windward received 25 points from Jordan Wilson in a 62-56 win over Bishop O’Dowd.

Damien came away with a 77-74 overtime win over Northview. Sophomore Jeremy Hemsley scored 26 points and Jared Dizon had 18. Covina defeated La Salle, 64-57. Elias Hernandez had 26 points. Milan Acquaah led La Salle with 22 points.

Village Christian defeated Fairfax, 53-48. Marsalis Johnson had 14 points. Sage Woodruff and Reggie Theus Jr. led Fairfax with 15 points apiece.

In the Chaminade tournament, Westlake defeated St. Genevieve, 87-68. Grant Lozoya had 27 points.

In the Hart tournament, Tullio Parry scored 29 points in Grant’s 96-66 win over Heritage Christian.
