Boys’ basketball: Trey Mason lifts Loyola past Brentwood

Trey Mason continued his solid form from three-point range, making four three-pointers en route to a 24-point performance in helping Loyola (6-0) defeat Brentwood, 76-65, in a quarterfinal game of the Santa Monica tournament. Tra Holder had 34 points for Brentwood (5-1).
Loyola will face host Santa Monica in a rematch of last week’s Torrance final on Friday at 8 p.m. in the semifinals. Jordan Mathews scored 35 points in Santa Monica’s 82-74 win over Crenshaw. Andre Edwards had 26 points for Crenshaw.
In a consolation game, Palisades defeated Oaks Christian, 64-62. Dakota Chambers scored on a layup with four seconds left.
In the Westchester tournament, Gardena Serra defeated Taft, 39-36. Tavrion Dawson scored 16 points. Kris Yanku led Taft with 16 points. Bishop Montgomery defeated Long Beach Millikan, 110-57, with Lamond Murray Jr. scoring 25 points. Bishop Montgomery will play rival Serra on Friday at 8:30 p.m.
In the University tournament, Los Angeles upset Sherman Oaks Buckley, 45-40. Carlos Bax, a 6-foot senior guard, scored 16 points. Arvis Greene scored 17 points and had 12 rebounds in University’s 68-43 win over Banning. University is 6-0. St. Bernard defeated Chatsworth, 58-55.
In the Ocean View tournament, Mater Dei (3-0) defeated Warren, 83-38. Elijah Brown scored 25 points and had 11 rebounds. Stanley Johnson added 19 points and nine rebounds. Ocean View defeated Dominguez, 73-69, in the battle of point guards. Ocean View’s Kendall Small scored 32 points. Dominguez’s EJ Johnson had 30 points.
In the Oak Park tournament, JD Slajchert, a 6-5 senior, scored 25 points, Ron Lee Jr. had 18 and Michael Alvarez 15 in an 87-53 victory for Oak Park (3-0). Yuri Howard scored 17 points as Besant Hill defeated Oxnard, 47-45. Valencia defeated Sherman Oaks Notre Dame, 50-47. Garrett Mike had 11 points. Cameron Glassen led Notre Dame with 13 points. Ventura defeated Agoura, 47-45.
Mission Viejo improved to 6-0 with a 67-53 win over Huntington Beach. Evan Zeller had 16 points, 10 rebounds and five assists. Sage Stone added 16 points.
Grant defeated Panorama, 73-39, in the Canyon tournament. Tullio Parry had 25 points and eight rebounds. Birmingham defeated Golden Valley, 84-66. Antone Datcher scored 23 points and Iseah Rodgers had 22 points.
Royal defeated North Hollywood, 82-24, in the Moorpark tournament. Max McCoy had 20 points. Royal plays Camarillo in Friday’s semifinals.
In the Valley Christian tournament, Santa Clara defeated Downey Calvary Chapel, 52-34. Juan Valvodinos had 12 points.
