There have been 1,044 high school athletes who have transferred state wide and must sit out at least 30 days in the first three months of a new CIF transfer rule, Executive Director Roger Blake said Tuesday during a conference call with reporters.

Overall, there were 8,322 transfers in the state, down from a similar period last year when there were 8,446 transfers.

Blake said 50 transfers were found to be involved in undue influence, up 10 from last year at a similar period. He said the increase was an indication of section commissioners devoting more time to catching cheaters now that they don’t have to spend as much time dealing with hardship issues under the revised transfer rules.
