Los Angeles Marymount has defeated Redondo Union, 25-16, 25-18, 25-14, to capture the CIF Southern California Regional championship. The Sailors will try to win their first Division I state title Saturday against Northern California Regional champion Sacramento St. Francis at Concordia University in Irvine.

Kaitlyn Edwards had 17 kills and Kathleen Harris added 13 kills and 15 digs for Marymount (36-5), which needed five sets to upset Redondo in the Southern Section Division 1AA final.

Skylar Dykstra led the Sea Hawks (37-5), who defeated Marymount twice in the regular season and upset San Diego Section winner Torrey Pines in the regional semifinals last Saturday. The Sailors played a clean match, taking an early lead in each set and finishing with 75 digs.

Marymount is seeking its seventh state title. The Sailors have won five Division IV state crowns and one in Division III. They lost to Palo Alto in five sets in last year’s Division I final. Marymount moved up to Division 1AA for the sectional playoffs this fall after winning back-to-back 1A titles.
