Football: UCLA-USC isn’t the only battle of L.A. this weekend

Yes, it’s UCLA-USC week, with the battle for Los Angeles supremacy at stake on Saturday at the Rose Bowl. But there’s another intense confrontation set for the night before. It’s Crenshaw-Dorsey in a City Section Division I quarterfinal game at Crenshaw.
The first time these two teams played on Oct. 19, Crenshaw won, 34-14. For them to play a second time offers a great opportunity for Dorsey to show what it has learned.
Dorsey’s defense played well at times, and the challenge for Crenshaw will be to continue to develop its balance on offense, led by quarterback Ajene Harris and running back Jacob Knight.
Dorsey’s offense will need to run the ball, because expecting quarterback Reginald Bell to have success against cornerbacks Mossi Johnson and Dominique Hatfield without a running game will lead to certain defeat.
It’s so fun to watch the emotion of the players before, during and after the game. This is a neighborhood battle, with more than bragging rights at stake. It’s either win or the season is over. That means the intensity level is going to be out of this world.
