Football: South Gate rallies to upset Verdugo Hills

Down, 21-0, No. 13 South Gate scored seven consecutive touchdowns and came away with a 55-35 victory over No. 4 Verdugo Hills in a City Section Division II playoff opener.

Eddie Flores passed for three touchdowns and ran for another. Lavell Thompson rushed for 198 yards.

No. 3 Van Nuys scored with 35 seconds left to defeat North Hollywood, 19-14.

No. 5 San Fernando defeated Cleveland, 32-15. Daemon Thompson had three touchdowns, including a 60-yard interception return. Cristian Solano passed for two touchdowns to Jose Camargo.

In Division I, Garfield received four touchdowns from Lance Fernandez in a 36-24 win over Taft.
