Football: San Fernando advances to City Division II semifinals

San Fernando has relied all season on running back Daemon Thompson and quarterback Cristian Solano, and each came through in a 55-27 City Section Division II quarterfinal victory over South Gate.

Thompson scored four touchdowns, including a 70-yard run. Solano threw for 241 yards and four touchdown passes. Jose Camargo had an interception return for a touchdown and a punt return for a touchdown.

The Tigers will face top-seeded South East in the semifinals.

The other semifinal will feature two teams that pulled off upsets. Jefferson defeated No. 2-seeded Eagle Rock, 63-21. Canoga Park knocked off No. 3 Van Nuys, 49-36.
