It’s going to be known as ‘The Drive’ in Venice High football lore.

With a City Section Division I semifinal playoff spot on the line, junior quarterback Alexander Diamont of Venice put together an 83-yard drive with less than two minutes left to rally the Gondos to a 27-24 victory over San Pedro and a spot against Crenshaw next week.

Diamont fired a 10-yard touchdown pass to Lamar Stewart with 40 seconds left.

Diamont completed seven consecutive passes on the drive after an initial incompletion.

‘It was an incredible drive,’ Coach Angelo Gasca said. ‘To do that in the playoffs where the stakes are so high was something I’ll never forget. In Venice, at least, it will be a drive for the ages.’
