Football: Khalfani Muhammad commits to California

Sherman Oaks Notre Dame running back Khalfani Muhammad has committed to California even though the school is searching for a new coach.

Muhammad was the Serra League co-player of the year in football and is the defending state champion in the 100 and 200 meters.

California fired football coach Jeff Tedford on Nov. 20, but Muhammad said Tuesday night that running backs coach Ron Gould recruited him, and he is confident about the future of the Golden Bears' program.

"I was born in California. I was raised in California. And I want to play football in California for the California Golden Bears," he said.

He's picking the school for football reasons, he said. "Track is going to take a backseat."
