Football: It's the battle of first-year coaches

Two programs that were given a boost by first-year coaches, San Fernando and South Gate, meet on Friday in a City Section Division II quarterfinal game at San Fernando.

Robert Garcia of San Fernando and Jose Casagran of South Gate have helped turn around their programs in quick fashion. Now the winner will get a semifinal berth.

San Fernando relies on the vesatility of quarterback Cristian Solano and the running of Daemon Thompson. South Gate turns to quarterback Eddie Flores as a spark.
