Football: It's like old times, Long Beach Poly vs. Mater Dei

The 1990s were all about Long Beach Poly taking on Santa Ana Mater Dei to decide who was king in high school football.

Now the two schools are back in the Pac-5 Division championship game on Saturday night at Angel Stadium.

They last played each other in a championship game in 1999, when the two schools tied, 21-21.

Poly has won 18 Southern Section championships. Mater Dei has won 10.

"For the high school football fan, you've got the classic match, Poly-Mater Dei," Mater Dei Coach Bruce Rollinson said.

Indeed.
