Football: Intriguing matchups in Western Division

A year ago, Culver City pulled off the shocker of the Western Division playoffs with an upset victory over Gardena Serra.

Now the Centaurs gets another opportunity for what would be an even bigger upset when they face top-seeded Lompoc (11-0) on Friday night at home.

Lompoc will be out of its comfort zone. Beating the Braves at home would be difficult, but getting them on the road makes anything possible.

Lompoc has a 31-game winning streak. Culver City is led by versatile receiver-defensive back Julius Wilson. Quarterback Xan Cuevas has passed for 1,880 yards and 15 touchdowns.

In another Western Division quarterfinal, Gardena Serra hosts Santa Monica, whose quarterback, Ryan Barbarin, left Serra after being beaten out for the starting job by Jalen Greene.
