You can’t say that Elijah Asante doesn’t have resiliency.

Asante, fired as football coach at St. Paul in the middle of the season, didn’t put his head down and mope around very long. He took a position as offensive coordinator at Lakewood and now gets to face a familiar foe, Santa Ana Mater Dei, in the opening round of the Pac-5 playoffs on Friday at Santa Ana Stadium.

St. Paul lost to Mater Dei, 35-10, to open the season. In 2011 and 2010, when Asante was head coach at Carson, the Colts beat Mater Dei.

Asante is going to have to figure out ways Lakewood can score against a very good Mater Dei defense.
