Venice Coach Angelo Gasca used to be known as a quarterback guru. Now he’s the running back guru.

He sent Curtis McNeal to USC, Teondray Caldwell to Washington State and now junior running Alijah Lee has rushed for more than 1,400 yards and has the Gondos in the City Section Division I semifinals against Crenshaw on Friday.

‘He’s just like them,’ Gasca said of Lee.

Venice is considered a heavy underdog to No. 2-seeded Crenshaw, but Gasca believes his team can play with the Cougars if they avoid turnovers and receive balance play on offense.
