Boys’ basketball: West Ranch holds off Crespi, 72-68

Valencia West Ranch received 23 points from Northern Arizona signee Aku Kaluna and 15 points from guard Kevin Harris to hold off Encino Crespi, 72-68, in a nonleague opener on Tuesday night.

Virginia-bound London Perrantes scored 23 points and freshman Max Heidegger had 16 points.

Woodland Hills El Camino Real, the preseason favorite to win the City Section Division I championship, opened its season with a 77-30 victory over Granite Hills in the Pasadena tournament.

Hawaii signee Michael Thomas scored 18 points and Mason Pollock had 14 points. Birmingham defeated Fremont, 66-51.

Leuzinger defeated Sylmar, 76-48. Stephon Nathan had 16 points and Eric Childres 15. Renaissance defeated Muir, 67-52. Cantwell-Sacred Heart defeated Washington, 58-25. Jose Estrada had 13 points.

Aaron Holiday had 30 points in Campbell Hall’s 90-56 win over Canoga Park.

Crenshaw defeated Placentia Valencia, 70-55, in the El Modena tournament. Andre Edwards had 24 points and 10 rebounds. Desmond Maxwell added 17 points.

In the Torrance tournament, Pacific Hills set up an early season showdown with Loyola by knocking off Palos Verdes, 75-32. Jahmel Taylor scored 25 points and Marcus Jackson 21. Loyola plays Pacific Hills on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m.

Fairfax defeated Peninsula, 53-41. Reggie Theus Jr. had 21 points.

Westlake opened with a 98-53 victory over Golden Valley in the Simi Valley tourament. Larry Bush had 22 points and Josh Brooks 18. Valencia defeated Dos Pueblos, 70-57. Rio Mesa defeated Simi Valley, 72-59.

Thousand Oaks improved to 2-0 with an 84-62 win over Don Lugo in the Sierra Vista tournament. Tanner Fanjoy and Dakota Pierce each scored 21 points.

Junior Sal Gonzalez scored 29 points and sophomore Cesar Reyes had 16 points and 10 assists, but Sun Valley Poly was beaten by Chatsworth, 61-58.

In the Burbank tournament, Royal defeated Glendale, 79-41. Kevin Habroun and Sebastian Gahito each scored 15 points. Village Christian defeated Roosevelt, 75-33. Marsalis Johnson had 24 points and five blocks. Westchester defeated Rancho Christian, 84-36, and will play Dominguz in the Redondo tournament.

Marcus LoVett scored 37 points in Providence’s 86-21 win over SOCES.

Rancho Cucamonga defeated Victor Valley, 72-22. Victor Joseph scored 19 points. In the St. Monica tournament, L.A. University defeated Newbury Park, 71-40.
