Boys' basketball: Sylmar coach is suspended for season opener

November 21, 2012 | 11:02 am

Sylmar will open its basketball season on Tuesday in the Pasadena tournament without Coach Bort Escoto. He will have to sit out the game because he missed a mandatory meeting of City Section coaches last month.

The officials will breathe a sigh of relief. Escoto had seven technicals last season, which was low for him. His record is 13 in a season.

Sylmar will unveil four players who were forced to sit out last season after switching schools. In other words, they redshirted in 2011-12.

It's going to be another interesting season for Sylmar basketball.
