Boys' basketball: L.A. Cathedral 7-footer signs with UC Irvine

UC Irvine is adding lots of height to its basketball program after signing its second 7-footer this week.

Earlier, the Anteaters signed 7-foot-5 Mamadou Ndiaye from Huntington Beach Brethren Christian. On Friday, they signed 7-2 Giannis Dimakopoulos, who's attending L.A. Cathedral and came from Greece.

"This is another example of my staff's hard work in identifying international recruits that will be great fits for UC Irvine," Coach Russell Turner said.

Dimakopoulos played for the Panathinaikos U-18 team that won the Greek championship last year, averaging 15 points and 11 rebounds.

He has not gained eligibility at Cathedral.
