It’s official. Barbara Fiege, the second-longest lasting commissioner of the City Section, said she will retire on June 30, 2013.

On July 1, the City Section is supposed to separate from the Los Angeles Unified School District and no longer be financed or run by the LAUSD.

So someone needs to be hired to replace Fiege, who has been the commissioner since 1993.

It’s a tough job. Fiege has done her best to make it through many challenges, whether it be budget cuts or controversial eligibility decisions.

She’ll probably help in a consulting role when she leaves the district, but she will be missed.
