Football: Roosevelt trailing 7-0 at halftime

October 26, 2012 |  9:07 pm

_A261142It was an exciting and hard-hitting first half, but not many points have been produced in the 78th East L.A. Classic at East Los Angeles College.

Garfield holds a 7-0 lead over Roosevelt thanks to a nine-yard TD run by Lance Fernandez and the extra point by Higinio Gonzalez midway through the second quarter. Juan Munoz is having a huge night for the Bulldogs with five catches for 125 yards.

Roosevelt has punted three times and had another drive end on an interception that set up the game's only score. Junior quarterback David Arriaga has completed 6 of 11 passes for 81 yards and homecoming king Gilbert Herrera has 33 yards in seven carries for Roosevelt, but Keny Orellana dropped a sure touchdown on the first play of the second quarter.

The Rough Riders can clinch the Eastern League crown with a victory but so far their archrivals aren't cooperating. The good news for Roosevelt is that it gets the ball first in the second half.
