Orange Lutheran is 5-0 under first-year Coach Chuck Petersen, but the first real test for the Lancers comes Friday in a Trinity League opener against Bellflower St. John Bosco at Orange Coast College.

You have to say that Petersen and the Lancers have done well so far. Petersen came from the college ranks, saw several players transfer after concerns about his run-oriented offense but has been able to get his players to buy into playing hard and playing as a team.

The offensive line has been a strength, led by UCLA-bound John Lopez and Colorado-bound Colin Sutton. Tavi Jimmerson has had four games rushing for more than 100 yards.

The team has had two weeks to prepare for St. John Bosco (1-4), which had to forfeit four games last week because of an ineligible player.

Every game in the Trinity League will be important, because all six teams have playoff ambitions and only three are guaranteed Pac-5 playoff berths.

St. John Bosco’s offense will offer a severe challenge to the Lancers.
