Football: Garfield up 7-0 in East L.A. Classic

_A261153Lance Fernandez took a handoff nine yards for a touchdown with 4:24 left in the second quarter and Garfield has struck first in the 78th East L.A. Classic against crosstown rival Roosevelt.

Sophomore defensive back Eleazar Rivera set up the Bulldogs' score with his 52-yard interception return after a tipped pass. 

Fullback Larry Ravelo has rushed eight times for 38 yards so far. Six of his family members have played in the neighborhood grudge match that began in 1925.
