Bellflower hadn’t beaten Lakewood Mayfair in 14 seasons. But on Friday night, Bellflower (6-4, 4-2) made a remarkable comeback in the final 18 seconds of regulation and won in overtime, 34-27, to take over second place in the Suburban League.

Mayfair took a three-point lead with 18 seconds left. Bellflower had no timeouts. After a squib kick gave Bellflower the ball on its 38, quarterback Swain Williams was able to complete three passes to three different receivers, giving Diego Sanchez the chance to make a 43-yard field goal with two seconds left to tie the game.

In overtime, Williams scored on a one-yard run and the Bellflower defense stopped Mayfair.

Ryan Hunley rushed for 232 yards in 41 carries and scored three touchdowns. Bellflower earlier this season defeated Norwalk in overtime.
