Boys’ basketball: Mixed success for St. Anthony transfers

When Eric Cooper Sr. resigned at La Verne Lutheran to become the boys’ basketball coach at Long Beach St. Anthony, his arrival triggered movement of players. Now the Southern Section has made some decisions on players who transferred to St. Anthony under new CIF transfer rules.

Cooper’s son, Eric Jr., a guard, will be eligible on Dec. 31, along with 6-foot-7 Kyle Benton, a transfer from Gahr. Jonathon Ross, a 6-8 sophomore from Orange Lutheran, is eligible immediately.

Brian Wright, a transfer from Lakewood Mayfair, and 6-6 Greg Karapoulios, a transfer from Cypress, have not been granted eligibility.
