Andy Rodriguez, an assistant baseball coach at L.A. Valley College for the last five years, has been hired as the head coach at Granada Hills Kennedy.

Rodriguez is a former Kennedy assistant. He replaces Manny Alvarado, who coached Kennedy for 24 years until he was reassigned in August by the Los Angeles Unified School District.

‘I have great respect for Manny,’ Rodriguez said. ‘I consider him a mentor. He brought me in back in 1999 as a young coach. What’s happened was unfortunate. Hopefully, I can step in and try to continue the tradition that has been there.’

Rodriguez, 46, was a Kennedy assistant for eight years. He was a pitching coach at Valley College. He graduated from San Fernando in 1984, where he was a pitcher.

He plans to begin his job immediately because the team hasn’t had a coach for two months.
