South Gate improved to 5-0 on Friday with a 44-28 win over Huntington Park in its Eastern League opener, but the game proved costly.

Quarterback Eddie Flores, who passed for three touchdowns, broke his wrist on his non-throwing hand and will be sidelined for at least six weeks, Coach Jose Casagran said.
