There weren’t too many people predicting Lancaster Paraclete would be able to handle the speed and athleticism of Los Angeles Dorsey, but the Spirits came away with a 26-24 victory on Thursday night at Antelope Valley College thanks to strong play on the offensive and defensive lines.

Dorsey had a difficult time figuring out how to stop quarterback Tyler Carvalho on the option play. The one time the Dons came through _ a fourth-and-one situation in the fourth quarter _ gave them a chance to win.

Unfortunately, too many penalties and too many mistakes cost the Dons. They failed three times on two-point conversion attempts.

Paraclete (3-1) is ranked No. 3 in the Southern Section Mid-Valley Division behind Sierra Canyon and Monrovia. The victory indicates the Spirits can be a definite title contender.

Dorsey (2-1) showed off a promising passing attack. Quarterback Reginald Bell passed for 335 yards. Receiver Delvon Hardaway caught three touchdown passes, including from 50 and 47 yards. But the Dons had no rushing attack, and that’s could be a problem when they have to face Alemany next Friday and Crenshaw down the road.
