The scoreboard operator on Friday night at West Hills Chaminade figures to be quite busy. The defenses could be huffing and puffing trying to keep up with the offenses during the Chaminade-Oaks Christian showdown at 7:30 p.m.

Oaks Christian has scored 40, 48 and 35 points in its first three games. Chaminade has scored 37, 49 and 41 points. Both schools are 3-0. Chaminade decided not to use quarterback Brad Kaaya last week to let him heal a muscle injury in the rib area, but he should be back to combine with Reggie Reed. One Chaminade challenge is dealing with Francis Owusu, the Stanford-bound Oaks Chrsitian receiver who Venice Coach Angelo Gasca considers to be on par with Oak Christian’s best players through the years, such as Marc Tyler and Owusu’s brother, Chris. And then there’s quarterback Brandon Dawkins, who keeps raising his level of play each game.

‘They sure look good on film,’ Chaminade Coach Ed Croson said. ‘It’s going to give us a good idea where were at. If we can eliminate mistakes and not give up a bunch of big plays, we’ll be all right.’ Oaks Christian will get a strong test from Chaminade running back Terrell Newby. And don’t forget about Chaminade kicker Ben Kreitenberg, who’s three for four on field goals.
