Football: Notre Dame ready to take on Chaminade

September 28, 2012 |  6:37 pm

West Hills Chaminade and Sherman Oaks Notre Dame could not ask for a better matchup to serve as a final tuneup for league play.

Chaminade (3-1) is led by its star running back Terrell Newby, who has rushed for 690 yards and nine touchdowns. The Eagles are ranked No. 23 in the Southland by The Times and begin Mission League play next week against 13th-ranked Gardena Serra in a game between two of the best teams in the Western Division. Chaminade's only loss was to No. 16 Westlake Village Oaks Christian.

Notre Dame is paced by quarterback Kelly Hilinski, who is completing 70 percent of his passes, and running back Khalfani Muhammad, the state 100 and 200-meter track champion. The Knights (4-1), ranked No. 25 by The Times, open Serra League competition next week against Mission Hills Alemany, one of the elite teams in the Pac-5 Division.

Notre Dame has reeled off four consecutive victories since losing its season opener to Serra.

Kickoff is 20 minutes away. Stay logged on for scoring updates.
