Football: Nice birthday present for Kevin Lewallyn

September 1, 2012 |  8:55 am

On his 17th birthday, receiver Kevin Lewallyn of West Hills Chaminade, the ace pitcher for the baseball team who continues to play football, caught a 62-yard touchdown pass on Friday from Brad Kaaya in the Eagles' 49-39 victory over Pulaski, Ark.

There were lots of interesting moments for the Eagles.

Pulaski, which never punts and tries for onside kicks on kickoffs, recovered three onside kicks, causing Coach Ed Croson to say, "There was one point I'm thinking, 'Maybe we should be going for onside kicks.'''

Croson still doesn't have one quarterback to rely on. Kaaya and Reggie Reed each took turns guiding the Eagles offense. Reed played in the fourth quarter and rallied the team, connecting on a 28-yard TD pass to Elijah Dunston.

"I still don't think we have a clear-cut guy," Croson said. "They'll both do some good things, then make some mistakes."

Terrell Newby rushed for 175 yards.

Next up for Chaminade (2-0) is a game against Valencia that will be televised by Fox Sports West.
