Derwin Henderson said Tuesday he has been removed as football coach at South East.

Henderson guided the Jaguars to the City Section Division II championship last season but the title was vacated after the City Section ruled South East had used an ineligible player. South East was 2-0 this season.

Henderson said he believes the decision to release him as coach is a result of an incident last week in which several players were involved in a fight. He said he reported the incident the next morning. He said the school took issue with his not filing a written report.

Henderson’s team lost one game on the field in his 16-game tenure. He was a walk-on coach.

Juan Cortez, the school’s assistant principal, declined comment, saying, ‘Call the district.’

A spokesperson for LAUSD said in a statement: ‘We can confirm that the head football coach has been let go. Due to the on-going investigation of the incident by school officials, no other details are available.’
