Football: Crenshaw faces stiff test at Westlake

September 7, 2012 |  6:30 pm

Los Angeles Crenshaw will try to earn some respect for the City Section tonight when it takes on Westlake in a matchup of undefeated teams tonight in Westlake Village.

The Cougars looked impressive in their first two games, outscoring Inland Empire foes Corona Santiago and Norco by a combined 84-56. Quarterback Ajene Harris has already thrown seven TD passes and will need another big game for Crenshaw to pull off the upset.

Westlake, ranked #22 in the Southland by The Times, has victories over Sac-Joaquin Section powers Loomis Del Oro and Granite Bay. The Warriors won the Northern Division title last season and lost to Concord De La Salle in the CIF Division 1 state bowl championship game.

Crenshaw is one of 15 City schools taking on Southern Section squads today. Other key intersectional matchups include Carson at #22 Mater Dei, Harvard-Westlake at Granada Hills, Long Beach Poly at #10 Harbor City Narbonne, Redondo at San Pedro, Sherman Oaks Notre Dame at Woodland Hills Taft and Venice at #7 Westlake Village Oaks Christian.

Kickoff is 30 minutes away. Stay logged on for updates throughout the game.
