Cerritos High School will no longer play varsity football for the rest of the season.

The Long Beach Press-Telegram reports that the program has been suspended for safety reasons. The school will continue to play a lower-level schedule.

Cerritos was 0-10 last season and is 0-4 this season.

Several other schools have dropped varsity teams this season for various reasons, including Playa del Rey St. Bernard, North Hollywood Campbell Hall and Temecula Rancho Christian.
