Coaches are responsible for voting in the Southern Section football polls, and they are apparently not as impressed with Ventura St. Bonaventure as some other people.

After beating Corona Centennial and Redlands East Valley in back-to-back games, St. Bonaventure (3-0) is No. 10 in this week’s Pac-5 rankings. From the same Marmonte League, Oaks Christian is No. 2 and Westlake is No. 3.

How can that be? Why isn’t St. Bonaventure getting some respect for playing tough opponents in nonleague games? I don’t have an answer. The Seraphs are way better than No. 10.

St. Bonaventure gets to play No. 1-ranked Santa Margarita in two weeks. If the Seraphs beat Santa Margarita, do you think the coaches might vault them all the way past Oaks Christian and Westlake to No. 1?

You never know what will happen with coaches voting in a poll. I don’t like polls and especially ones where coaches are involved. They probably know more about football than sportswriters, but they don’t know more about how to rank the top teams.
