Champions for Character dinner honors sportsmanship, integrity

The ninth annual Southern Section Jim Staunton Champions for Character dinner will be held on Monday, Oct. 1, at The Queen Mary in Long Beach, honoring schools, athletes and administrators.

‘They exemplify our commitment to sportsmanship, character and to ‘Pursuing Victory with Honor,’’ Southern Section Commissioner Rob Wigod said. The student honorees: Nick Avne, Heritage; Briana Contreras, Heritage; Elizabeth Snow, Long Beach Millikan; Jewelyn Sawyer, Gahr; Tanya Carrazco, Azusa; Andrew Pacheco, Alta Loma; Monica Aracelli Quila, Oxnard Pacifica; Kevin Brown, University; Karley Wester, Edison; Wedge Molthen, St. John Bosco; Jennifer Pillon, Lakewood St. Joseph; Monica Sheldon, Marlborough; Lauren Joseph, Mayfield; Caitlin Markey, Providence.
