Ajon Efferson, a top junior point guard at Pasadena, is leaving Pasadena and is expected to enroll at Gardena Serra.

Serra Coach Dwan Hurt said Friday that Efferson has filled out papers to attend Serra but hasn’t officially enrolled. Pasadena Coach Tim Tucker said Efferson’s father informed him on Thursday that he was leaving.

Efferson played at Woodland Hills Taft as a freshman and Pasadena as a sophomore. He’d have to move to be eligible immediately.

Pasadena was one of the summer’s best teams but also faced internal problems. Efferson is known as a scoring point guard, and Tucker said that wasn’t exactly what the Bulldogs needed on a team with lots of scorers.

Serra already has a top point guard in sophomore Ellis Salahuddin. There’s still a chance Efferson could change his mind. Or not.

This could be the start of more movement of players. Several coaches have predicted that players might switch schools just prior to the start of basketball season after figuring out where they stand on rosters.
